At Operation Child Care Project™, our mission has always been rooted in supporting military families with the child care solutions they deserve. That’s why we were so honored to host our recent live session, “Ask Me Anything: HomeFront Help Colorado,” where we welcomed Kayla Corbitt, Founder and CEO of OCC Project, and Heather Maxey, Program Manager of HomeFront Help Colorado.
During this conversation, we dove deep into how HomeFront Help is expanding from its pilot roots in Florida to serve Colorado’s military families. This growth is about more than just geography—it’s about listening to helpers, improving the process, and building meaningful support in the places where our military families live and work.
Kayla and Heather shared the journey of HomeFront Help so far. In Florida, the program connected over 150 families with 26 trained and vetted helpers. We learned a lot through that pilot, and thanks to direct feedback, the program now offers a single-day training experience, reimbursed child care during training, a lead helper role for peer support, and quarterly “State of the Union” calls to keep our community engaged and informed.
Colorado families and future helpers are already benefiting from this refined model. Applications are now open for the next Colorado training cohort, scheduled for June 28. Those interested will first complete an application, followed by online modules and an in-person cohort day. Helpers who complete each step will receive incentives, and there are bonuses for referrals and continued participation. We want to honor the time and commitment our helpers make by ensuring the experience is flexible, supportive, and rewarding.
The team also introduced an exciting new effort specific to Colorado Springs. This program will help connect families with trusted caregivers while also offering a curated roadmap of local family-friendly activities, opportunities for professional training, and continuing education. It’s designed to meet the real needs of military families where they are—giving them tools to build a sustainable network of care.
As always, attendees were invited to ask questions live or submit them ahead of time. We know schedules can be unpredictable, so we’ve made sure the full recording of this live session is available on both our YouTube and Facebook pages.
If you’re ready to apply to become a helper, explore our training, or just learn more about how HomeFront Help can serve your community, we encourage you to visit our main page at occproject.org/homefronthelp. We’re also sharing upcoming opportunities and outreach in Florida and Colorado, so be sure to check back frequently or reach out with any questions.
Every day, we see the impact of connection. When families have access to safe, dependable child care, they can do their jobs, serve their country, and come home to peace of mind. That’s what we’re building, together.
