We just wrapped up another fantastic Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, and this time we covered what we know about the standardization of the EFMP Respite Program for Air Force and Space Force families. This program provides critical support for families enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), offering respite care to ensure caregivers get the time and support they need. You can access the slide deck here.
We were joined by Austin Carrigg, the CEO & Founder of Exceptional Families of the Military, a military spouse-owned non-profit dedicated to military families navigating EFMP. OCC Project always believes that advocacy is best led by those being served. As a result, we seek understanding and collaboration from organizations like Exceptional Families of the Military, which interact with families on a daily basis.
If you couldn’t make it to the live session, no worries—we’ve got all the details here to help you learn about the program and how to access it.

Key Highlights from the AMA
Eligibility: The program is available to Air Force and Space Force families enrolled in EFMP. Eligibility requirements were discussed in detail during the session. As part of standardization, we expect a decrease in eligible families.
How It Works: Families can access a set number of monthly respite care hours (not to exceed 32 hours) tailored to meet their unique needs. All currently eligible families MUST submit all required documents by the 31st of this month to ensure continuity.
How to Get Started: Check out our EFMP Resources to include links to guides, policies, and contacts. Everything you need to start benefiting from the program is at your fingertips.
